The COVID Pandemic has made us at IIT Bombay rethink the way we impart education to our students. To ensure that our students begin the academic year without further delay, we are planning on extensive online classes. However, Our recent survey of facilities with the students indicates , a large section of our students come from economically less privileged families and would require a helping hand to equip them with the IT hardware (i.e. laptops and broadband connectivity) to take these online classes and course contents.

Our preliminary estimate is that we have more than 1000 students who belong to economically weaker category. This statistics refers to UG students. At the same time, if we add other students whose parental income is low or those who are doing PG, then the estimate could be even higher. The Institute therefore has decided to undertake a fund-raising drive for supporting the needy students. We propose to raise a sum of Rs. 5 Cr for this initiative. Our estimate of cost per student include - Rs. 40,000/- for a laptop and Rs. 7,000/- for broadband connectivity support (5 GB/day @ Rs. 700/- p.m.) over 10 months.

We do not want a single student to miss out the learning experience for the lack of money. We look forward to your overwhelming support to help these bright young minds to continue their learning without any further hindrances or delays.
